My New Favorite Duo!

Every once in awhile, if you’re lucky, you’ll find a makeup hack, that’s not only you’re new favorite, can’t live without, but that’s worth sharing with everyone you know, because it’s just that good.

Y’all, I have found the perfect beauty duo.

Now, brace yourselves. Because when I first heard about this duo, I laughed. I thought ‘there is no way it can be that good.’ But it can. It is.

And you totally should try it for yourself.

All you need is Beautycounter’s Lustro Shimmer Oil ($35) and Beautycounter’s Baby Daily Protective Balm ($22). And then you can have the best looking, glowing, dewy skin ever.

And yes, I said baby balm. Turns out this little product is great for a ton of things! Next week I’ll be sharing a new trick on how to make your own cream shadow using the balm!

So, I already loved the Lustro Shimmer Oil as I’ve shared it a few times with you guys, but when you add the balm on top of it, it’s just so much better!

You know the look you get when you just start to sweat just a little. Maybe you’re at the gym. Maybe you’re laying in the sun. It’s not the grotesque sweating that I’m talking about, but the glow. The natural moisture. Know what I’m talking about?

This is the look you get.

And the amazing thing is that it lasts all day long. No matter what you’ve got going on.

Your skin is going to look like you’ve just stepped off the beach. Perfect for the upcoming Holiday season.

And don’t forget! You could always add Beautycounter’s Sea Salt Spray ($26) for the complete ‘beachy’ look.

Seriously y’all, you’ve got to try this. And if for some reason you don’t fall in love, you can totally return it and get your money back, with Beautycounter’s 60 day 100% moneyback guarantee.

But something tells me, you’re gonna love it as much as I do.

Fall Favorites: Lip Edition

Can y’all believe it’s officially fall?! Seriously, this year has flown by.

But as the seasons change so does our makeup. I was totally digging Beautycounter’s Coral Lip Sheer over the Spring and Summer, but now that the air is getting cooler and the days are getting darker, I thought I would share my new favorites for this upcoming season. First up, Scarlet. Because a classic red is never out of style. And this red seriously flatters everyone. Some of my most timid clients rock this red. Because it’s just that good. Next, Plum. This was the color I didn’t think I’d like, but I love it! The deep purple is gorgeous. And it is such a perfect color for fall. Finally, a favorite since the beginning, Currant. This brown/berry color is a staple in my Fall wardrobe. It’s a flattering shade that can be worn during the day or in the evening for a late night out. It is one favorite date night shades. Be sure to join my Facebook group Cleaner, Safer, Better to find out how you can win a Lip Sheer of your choice.

Good Times Key West

Okay y’all, we all know that I love to travel and that God has given me the opportunity to do a little bit of traveling with the kids these last couple of months. And the truth is, I love every destination. I can find beauty in everything that we do because it has been such a blessing, but I don’t always blog about it, it’s just not my thing, but I have to tell you about Good Times Key West.

Because it is that good.

Recently, me and the kids went down to Key West for vacation. If you haven’t been, you need to go. It’s gorgeous. It’s fun. And did I mention that it’s gorgeous?!

I have never been a huge fan of oceans or gulfs. Blame it on my obsession with The Little Mermaid, but I know what lives down there and I’m good.

Trust me, I’m good.

But even though we had access to a few pools during our stay, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the crystal clear water down there. Seriously, it was so gorgeous.

It may have even been the highlight of my trip, thanks to Good Times Key West.

(And yes, I’m even including that time where we ate true Key Lime Pie and it was to-die-for.)

On a Sunday afternoon, I found myself and the kids on a boat with Good Times Key West and it was amazing. The weather was perfect. The water was perfect. And it was the perfect day to be on a boat.

First, we found ourselves out at the sandbar. Now when I think sandbar, I think of walking from the shore out to the middle of the water, where the tide is low, nope! Not in Key West. Captain Justin Ferrell of Good Times Key West took us out in the middle of the ocean where the water was crystal clear and came just to my waist.

Seriously, it was so cool to just pull up and hop off the boat to swim, relax, have lunch and let the kids swim around. We saw fish and Starfish. And it was lovely.

And this is coming from the girl who only puts her feet in!

Captain Justin was amazing. He was knowledgeable. He was patient. He was friendly. And he made it easy for us to step outside of our comfort zone.

A few hours later, he took us out a little further at the request of my 6 year old to do a little snorkeling.

Here’s the thing about my 6 year old. He wants to be brave. He wants to try new things, but just like his mama he hesitates. He gets scared and he lets the fear overtake him sometimes.

He must have sat on the edge of that boat for 15 minutes trying to convince himself to take the leap. And Captain Justin was so patient.

Finally, Jaxsyn went for it.

Y’all the look on his face after he did. So worth the wait!

Captain Justin took him around, looking at fish, finding the perfect spot.

And as a mother, I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous about my 6 year old being in the middle of the ocean, but I trusted Captain Justin. And that’s saying something.

Next, Captain Justin took us on a tour through the Mangrove Islands. Y’all, his navigation skills were on point! He pointed out the different wildlife and even gave the kids an educated presentation of sorts. I was impressed. And even I learned something.

Per request of Jaxsyn we also did a little fishing. Didn’t catch anything, but Jaxsyn was so happy.

As we rode back, Captain Justin was able to point out different landmarks and Key West attractions. Like the MTV Real World House, a personal favorite of mine. ;)

We must have spent 5-6 hours on that boat and I wouldn’t have known. It was so comfortable. Captain Justin made it the perfect ride. Even when the kids wanted to go fast.

I never would have been able to do this with my kids on my own. I have said since I became a single mother that making memories with my kids is my top priority. I want my kids to look back and remember fun things. Good things. Not the fighting, the divorce, the move. I want good memories. And that’s exactly what Good Times Key West and Captain Justin Ferrell did for us.

If you are ever in the Key West area and are looking for something fun and exciting to do, check out Good Times Key West. No matter your age, your family, your sense of adventure, I promise you, you will have an amazing time! And you seriously couldn’t ask for a better captain!

Can’t wait to go back in October!

DIY Household Cleaners & Air Freshener

I’ve done a lot of DIY household cleaners. Most of which my husband hated because he claimed that they smelled like yucky vinegar. I couldn’t argue, most of them did smell terrible no matter what I did, but I was determined to continue to make my own because I knew that it was safer for me and my family than what was on the shelves in the store.

It took weeks, months, and a lot of time on Pinterest before I found something that both of us liked, well actually, loved.

These don’t smell like yucky vinegar. I am a huge fan of Lavender and Peppermint Essential Oils and so that’s what I use, but really you can use whatever you want. Customize them to smell the way you want.

Also, since these are household cleaners I wasn’t super picky about what essential oils I used so I just picked up some oils from a craft store to save a little money.

Super easy to make, smells awesome, and keeps the house clean. Doesn’t get much better than that!

Let’s Get Wild!

You all know that I am a huge fan of making and creating. I love homemade and handmade everything. And for a little bit I even had my own little Etsy shop where I created lots of fun things, and while I still love making things, I’ve learned that I love supporting other ‘makers’ even more!

So when I found out that a good friend of mine had begun her own small business journey, I knew that I had fallen in love. Her creations were simple. There was no fluff needed. Each piece was handmade and you knew that each piece meant something to her. Everything was perfectly unique and one-of-a-kind.

Soon she found herself being featured in small shops around Jackson Hole, Wyoming in addition to her own Instagram Shop, Wild Production 307. It turned out that lots of people were enjoying her ‘Wild’ Productions. And so I knew that she would make a wonderful feature on the blog and I knew you would be grateful to finally meet ‘Wild Productions’.

From beanies for babies to boot cuffs and scarves, Wild Productions does it all and even if she doesn’t, she’s happy to do custom orders.

1. Why did you start Wild Productions?

When I first learned how to knit, I never imagined I’d come this far with it! Living in a small town word got out pretty quickly that a local gal made knitted goodies for affordable prices…that’s when my husband and I decided to put a name on all my hard work (he makes all my labels) Being able to stay home with my kids and still contribute financially (doing something I love and am good at!) is just the best dream come true! Something being sold with my label on it is like a reminder of what dedication can really achieve.

2. What’s your favorite thing to make?

Oh man, I love it all! I really enjoy being able to throw my creativity into the item as well, even if it’s as simple as button placement or helping decide color combos!

3. Why is it important to support local/small business?

I adore buying from local/small business, not only are you fulfilling someone else’s dream of being their own boss, but you can feel the love that went into each product. There’s so much heart and soul put into small businesses!

4. What advice would you give to someone who is looking to start their own business?

PATIENCE haha you need a lot of patience! Absolutely nothing will happen over night, just keep giving it your all and stay positive! It can be so discouraging not having your business take off right away, so dedication is key! Find what you love and give it your all!

And for all of my readers, you can get a little ‘wild’ by using code BLOG15 to receive 10% off your entire Wild Production order now thru 1/31/15 at 11:59pm MST.

Top 10 Favorite Apps

I am obsessed with my iPhone and my iPad. I use them for absolutely everything. And so I’ve tried a lot of apps. And I have absolutely hated some and I have absolutely loved some, so here is my current top 10 must-have apps. What are some of your favorites?

AroundMe

So I know I’ve lived in Houston for almost 2 years but I still have no idea where things are. So this app is perfect for me because I can just go somewhere, open this app, and find everything that I need right where I am and with directions. No more searching, missing exits, having to turn around 3 times, and no more having to drive all the way across town just to go where I am familiar.

OpenTable (Download here.)

This app kind of ties in with AroundMe. Since I am not familiar with this area and since Houston is so big, this app is perfect for me because it helps me find restaurants and it makes it super simple for me to decide what I’m in the mood for and then it lets me create a reservation right from my phone without having to dial a number. It’s super convenient and makes impromptu date nights hassle free.

EWG’s Food Scores

I was so excited when the Environmental Working Group (www.ewg.org) came out with this app. I am a huge fan of their Skin Deep app (I’ll be talking about that one next.) and I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. If you’re like me you want to make the healthiest choices for your family and this app helps you do just that. I have it ready when I shop, I scan barcodes, and it pulls up a rating and I decide whether or not it’s worth it. Makes healthy living so much easier.

EWG’s Skin Deep

Before Beautycounter I had never even considered that my personal care products could be making me sick. And so when I learned the truth about this industry I knew I had to make better choices for me and my family. And then I met the Skin Deep app. I use Beautycounter for everything they offer, but there are a few things they don’t have yet, like deodorant and mascara, and so I use this app to help me make educated decisions in such an unregulated industry. Just like the Food Scores app, you scan barcodes and it pulls up a rating and allows you to see what the risks are and also gives you safer suggestions.

Waterlogue

I’ve always wanted to learn how to paint water colors. My husband can do it, but not me and so this app is perfect for me! I love taking pictures and I can take my pictures and have them transformed into water colored paintings. I can print these pictures out and hang them up for a unique decoration.

PostalPix

I don’t know what I would do without this app. This app makes ordering my Instagram pictures easy breezy. There is no picking up, they mail your pictures to you. They’ve always been super quick and the quality is fantastic. They also have a few other items you can order. And they’ve recently made it even easier to order because now you can go directly to your IG account and select pictures directly from there. Available in different print sizes. This app is just awesome!

A Beautiful Mess

I’ve been a huge fan of this app for a couple years now. This sister duo has an awesome DIY blog with lots of creative and fun ideas and this app allows you to do lots of fun things with your pictures. Great filters, doodles, and texts, this app really gets the creative juices flowing.

Party Party

created by the same sisters who gave us the A Beautiful Mess app, this app is probably one of the coolest apps I’ve ever used. For those of you who love to take pictures, you need this app. Create moving stills to tell your unique story. This app also allows you to have a photo booth option and you can print your own photo booth pictures too!

Carousel

So I have over 18,000 pictures and I needed a place to store them so I started using Dropbox. But sorting through 18,000 pictures was hard, thankfully they just launched this new app, Carousel, and it takes your Dropbox photos and puts them on an easy to access timeline. It opens up storage on your device and it allows you to have access to every single picture you’ve ever taken. It also allows you to share your photos easily. Love this app!

Sunrise

I spent most of 2014 trying to find the perfect calendar/organizer. I’ve always been a handwritten calendar kind of gal, but since everything I do is on my phone or iPad or computer I needed something I could access anywhere. And then I found Sunrise. I love this calendar! I can share things with my husband so he knows what’s going on in my schedule. I can access it from all 3 devices. It’s easy to read, easy to add events, and sends me reminders just in case I forget to check my calendar. I love how organized I am now! Watch out 2015!

January Must-Have

This month as the temperatures drop and my showers tend to get hotter and hotter, my skin becomes a nightmare. It’s dry and itchy. I look scaly and ashy and it’s just not pretty at all.

Thank goodness for Beautycounter’s Hydrate Body Lotion. This lotion is lightweight, smells awesome (Citrus Mimosa), but the best part is that it gives me healthy, radiating skin even when the elements are against me.

Gentle enough to use on a baby, this lotion is perfect for the whole family. And at $22 it’s a steal. Completely safe and completely effective. You can’t go wrong.

Love Looks Like

“My vision is that these cards would travel around with you as you wander through life, but they wouldn’t stay with you. I envision you might leave a card with your tip at a restaurant, or slip it to a barista as you are handed your coffee. It could be just the thing a friend needs on a difficult day, or a reminder to a coworker that they are valued. Encouragement impacts people, and I am excited to see how these cards might play a role in reminding people of their value and worth.”

I love this.

Last week, I attended an event at my church. It was a night for moms and ladies of all ages. It’s title ‘Beautiful’. I haven’t been feeling very ‘beautiful’ lately. I’ve been feeling everything but.

I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to go. I hate facing people these days. I just feel so worn out that I just don’t have it in me to put on a face and I’m not quite sure that I want to suffer any sort of breakdown in front of anyone either. But I went. I went just to get out of the house for a little bit. To be alone. I went more for the car ride than the event. The complete silence for 45 minutes. Time to collect my thoughts, my strength.

I found my seat and listened to the speaker. She was good. She sounded a lot like me. As I glanced around the room, I saw that she sounded a lot like all of us. And I could tell that a lot of women hadn’t been feeling very ‘beautiful’ lately.

Once the speaker finished, we were introduced to ‘Love Looks Like’. We picked out different cards, they look just like business cards, except they have an encouraging message on the front. You can write a note if you want on the back, but the idea is that you just hand these out to strangers or friends. Just to remind them that they are loved just as they are.

As someone who hasn’t felt loved lately and who constantly thinks that she just needs to fix or change, being loved just as I am, just as we are, is something that I desperately want to believe, but there just aren’t enough people saying it.

What an amazing thing to do?! I think back to the times that a stranger has said something to me, something that I absolutely needed to hear at that exact moment. It doesn’t happen as often as I would like, or need rather, but when it does, it changes me. Even if it’s just for a few seconds.

Of course, the idea of handing these out to strangers is a bit daunting. Stepping out of our comfort zone makes all of us slightly nervous, but then I think, what if we are the only ones that let those people know just how loved they are.

And isn’t that what love looks like? Doesn’t it look like us stepping out of our comfort area and taking a chance on telling someone just how we feel. Love isn’t really about ourselves. It’s about the other person, right?

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

As Christians we are commanded to love our neighbors. I struggle with this. A lot. But just because I struggle doesn’t mean that I’m not expected to love anyways, right?

Imagine what your world would look like if you loved more.

Imagine the impact.

If you would like to learn more, please visit http://www.doeslovelooklike.me.

To answer the question, I hope it does.
