Because I remember hearing about this company over 5 years ago and thinking, ‘no freaking way’.
Nope. Nope. And nope.
I was not someone who sold things. I was not the person who threw parties. Heck, I wasn’t even the girl who wore makeup or washed her face.
But then something happened.
I started learning more.
And maybe I wasn’t any of those things at the time, but I was a mother. I was a daughter. I was a sister. I was a partner. I was a wife. I was all of those things and maybe it didn’t matter to me what I was putting on my skin everyday, maybe I really just didn’t care, but those people in my life? I couldn’t not care about them.
And so I began my journey towards health and wellness.
I learned that even though I thought I was making safer choices, I wasn’t. Not for lack of trying, mind you, but because of a lack of regulation.
Did you know that it’s been over 80 years since a major federal law was passed governing the personal care industry?
80. Years. Y’all.
I learned that the choices I thought were safer, weren’t. They just used pretty words and fancy bottles to make me think I was doing better.
Because isn’t that what it’s all about. Just doing better.
So, let me introduce you to Beautycounter.
A progressive B Corporation company that isn’t just focused on profit, but rather a mission driven company that is here to disrupt the beauty industry and demand better for everyone.
Because call me crazy, but I do believe we should all have access to safer, healthier products. And because I believe that companies should do better.
And so I knew I had to get involved. I knew that I had to be a part of the change. And so I did the unthinkable.
I joined Beautycounter in February 2014.
And I haven’t slowed down yet.
Because I had never really thought of all the things I was putting on my body. And then I quickly started thinking about what I was putting IN my body as well.
I had never really considered the diet part of my life, but then you realize that health and wellness is not just ONE thing. It’s all these things.
It’s in the everyday choices you make.
And so I just started making healthier choices little by little.
And I want to show you and anyone else who will listen how to make those same choices. How to take back your life. How to take back your health. And how to do it all while still being all the other things life needs you to be.
Because we deserve better. Because our health matters. And because we shouldn’t have to compromise our health in the name of beauty.
To get safe products into the hands of everyone.
The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.
The European Union has spent the past two decades banning or restricting more than 1,300 ingredients, the US has only banned 30 to date.
Because at Beautycounter, we’ve banned over 1,500 ingredients. We call this our ‘Never List‘.
We promise NEVER to use these ingredients in our products. But even cooler than that? We also tell you what we DO use and Why. You can check it out in our ingredient glossary.
Okay, I know what you’re thinking, ‘but Lauren, do these products actually work?’
You’re darn right they do.
To be honest, I was never really a product person. I didn’t have a skincare line. in fact, I don’t even think I washed my face regularly.
And as far as makeup went, I never wore it.
But then washing my face became something I looked forward to. Taking that 10 minute shower in the morning made the rest of the day bearable.
What I didn’t realize is that Beautycounter would help me understand what self love meant, but we’ll talk more about that later!
I like the way these products make me look and feel. I like being comfortable in my own skin, but still taking time for myself.
And I love how these products were made for people just me.
Here’s a few of my favorites!

Because maybe it isn’t about taking that bottle of wine with you into the bathroom as you start to read labels and quickly realize that everything you have must go! (No exaggeration- true story.) But maybe, it’s more like running low on shampoo, why not make the switch to safer and try Beautycounter? Maybe it’s finding a new favorite lip color without the harmful lead in it.
Because remember, it’s about making better choices. It’s about doing a little better than the time before. And it’s about telling everyone you know that they deserve better.
