Day Two

Psalm 19: 1-14

1 The heavens declare the glory of God,

and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

2 Day to day pours out speech,

and night to night reveals knowledge.

3 There is no speech, nor are there words,

whose voice is not heard.

4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,

and their words to the end of the world.

In them he has set a tent for the sun,

5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,

and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.

6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,

and its circuit to the end of them,

and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

7 The law of the Lord is perfect,

reviving the soul;

the testimony of the Lord is sure,

making wise the simple;

8 the precepts of the Lord are right,

rejoicing the heart;

the commandment of the Lord is pure,

enlightening the eyes;

9 the fear of the Lord is clean,

enduring forever;

the rules of the Lord are true,

and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold,

even much fine gold;

sweeter also than honey

and drippings of the honeycomb.

11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;

in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can discern his errors?

Declare me innocent from hidden faults.

13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;

let them not have dominion over me!

Then I shall be blameless,

and innocent of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

be acceptable in your sight,

O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

I remember coming home two years ago to visit and driving the same roads I had driven for years, but there was something about these roads now. I could see the beauty in them. The things I had taken for granted for years. I paid attention to all the details. Every last one of them. And I remember just being in awe at His creation. The way He placed the mountains perfectly in the background as I came over the hill heading towards my parents’ house. This is the same God who loves to talk to us. Who loves to be in relationship with us. Who loves to love us. The one who made the perfect Carolina mountain landscape sees something in me worth wanting. I’ve spent enough time questioning that very idea. Asking Him ‘why’ more times than I can count. But I haven’t spent nearly enough time just thanking Him. Because it isn’t just about the view on the drive, it’s about all the details that He has tended to when it comes to me. It’s about the lost cries only He has heard at night when I’m alone and it’s just too much to bear. It’s about the moments in between the big things. The things we remember the most. Because the same God who created this gorgeous world we take for granted everyday, also listens to His children when we cry out to Him. And even when we don’t even realize we’re doing it.

Lord, thank you. Thank you for always listening. For always providing. For taking the time on someone like me. Even when I’m most undeserving and when I overlook your thoughtfulness and love. When I take it all for granted. Thank you, Lord for always being my constant. And for loving me in a way I don’t even realize I need. Lord, you are so good. Thank you for paying attention to the details. In your name we pray. Amen.

  1. That is beautiful. Your prayer is awesome. It is so true how we miss the beauty of God’s creations, but sometimes when he wants to catch our attention, He put a breathtaking sunrise or sunset that we can’t overlook…

  2. “When it seems like absolutely everything is going wrong—trust Me. When your life feels more and more out of control—thank Me…Trusting and being thankful in the middle of a really bad day are supernatural responses, and they unlock My supernatural Power in your life. I’ll see you through whatever mess you’re in and fill you up with My Peace, which is beyond your understanding.” ~Jesus Calling for Kids by Sarah Young
